Road Construction and Maintenance

From initial grading, to finish applications of mag-chloride, a sustainable road needs to handle traffic, but also manage water. Our prescription for roads starts with proper structural shaping and drainage, ensuring that intervals between maintenance are longer and upkeep is affordable. A J Construction has maintained long term contracts with subdivisions across La Plata County, conducting annual maintenance to maximize the reuse of road materials, and minimize wear and tear on vehicles.

Professional Road Grading

A sustainable road begins with proper shaping to manage water. Ditches and culverts play a big role, but an often overlooked detail of road construction is the crown. By maintaining a highpoint at the center of the road, sloping down to each shoulder, water is effectively transported off the road and into the ditches. This prevents puddling on the driving surface, which leads to potholes.

A J Construction's road crew establishes the ideal shape for your road first, then finishes with a series of water and compaction treatments to establish a more robust driving surface. The extra investment in shaping and material will end up saving you money over the long term by extending times between maintenance intervals, while reducing maintenance workloads.

Benefits of Mag Chloride

When applied correctly, Mag Chloride is an effective surface hardener that provides increased durability for subdivision roads. Long term use can help reduce maintenance and reapplications, and help with cost savings.

Mag Chloride is a great product for Southwest Colorado's dry climate. It is instrumental in dust suppression, reduces the development of washboards and potholes, and reduces loss of road base on heavy traffic roads.

It is also recognized as an eco-friendly product by the US Department of Agriculture.
